A Memorial Day Trifle

To mark this event, we're feasting on the fruits of the season: berries. All the berries. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries to be specific. You can whip up this easy, patriotic trifle too in no time.

Here’s to long weekends and clean kitchens! AM I RIGHT?!

The hubs, fur-child, and I are enjoying this holiday at home. Which feels like a rare treat since we usually end up driving to one end of the earth or another to celebrate with family. WHO WE LOVE AND MISS, of course, but there’s just something we relish about being home <3

To mark this indulgent event, we’re feasting on the fruits of the season: berries. All the berries…strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries to be specific. You can whip up this easy, patriotic trifle too in no time. You can use my mom’s recipe for The Best Citrus Pound Cake or you can buy one at the store. This is a judgment-free zone.

Here’s how you throw together this 4-Berry Memorial Day Trifle. It’s simply layers of cake, jam, whipped cream, and berries. You really can’t mess it up!

  • Chop up your citrus pound cake into roughly 2″x2″ chunks, add one layer of cake chunks to your trifle dish.
  • Drizzle you berry jam of choice (I used a delicious strawberry from Sprout’s) on top of the cake chunks. It’s easier if you stick it in the microwave for a short time but don’t let it get too hot!

  • Add about an inch or two of whipped cream.┬áIf the jam is still too hot, it will melt your whipped cream which will run down the side of your dish…you can see where I was a tad impatient and melted some of my whipped cream. Do as I say, peeps, not as I do. Let it cool!
  • Drop your berries on top of the whipped cream.
  • Repeat!

Pile your remaining berries on top and dig in. Please give us a shout if you make this recipe! Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
